Extension

Extension is a very large rural area about 17 minutes from downtown. It dates back to when coal mining was active in Nanaimo in the early 1900s and has some older homes that date back to this time along with others from the first and second world wars. When the mines shut down this area was basically abandoned and really has not had much development at all with the exception of some newer homes around Myles Lake so there is a lot of good potential. South Nanaimo is relatively close along with Chase River developments so the access to shopping and community services have increased in the last five to 10 years to the region. There is a lot of good hiking and one of the draws is the Nanaimo River that many residents enjoy on hot summer days.
